For Additional Information Darrell Dorgan 250-1833 *****2008 HALL OF FAME NOMINESS TO BE ANNOUNCED*****
The 2008 nominees for the North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame will be announced at the group’s annual meeting on February 22 and 23. The gathering will be held at the Seven Seas Hotel and Waterpark, Mandan.
The annual weekend meeting begins with a free social and dance on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. central time and continues on Saturday with the Hall of Fame annual meeting at 1:00 p.m. A report on the 2008 exhibit plans will be provided to members.
At 2:30 p.m., the Hall of Fame’s Trustees will meet to discuss the nominees for 2008. The Hall of Fame will induct seven individuals, one ranch and one rodeo animal into its Hall of Honorees this year. Since 1998, more than 100 individuals, ranches, bucking horses and bulls, and events have been picked for the Hall of Honorees that is the centerpiece of the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Medora.
NDCHF Executive Director Darrell Dorgan says, “Nearly 200 Trustees from across the state are in charge of nominating and voting on Hall of Honoree inductees. This year there are nearly 70 nominees, and those who are chosen for the ballot will be voted on in May and June by the Trustees. The nine inductees for 2008 will be announced over the 4th of July and formally inducted in Medora on Saturday, August 2.
At 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, a reception and fundraising auction will begin, with the annual banquet at 7:00 p.m. Entertainment this year will be provided by the Strolling Strings of Bismarck high School. Honored guests will include National Cowboy Hall of Fame inductees Alvin Nelson and Duane Howard. Loretta Tescher will represent her late husband, Jim, who was also inducted into the National Cowboy Hall of Fame and who died in 2005. Chad Berger of Mandan, recently named the PBR Stock Contractor of the Year, will also be honored.
Tickets and rooms for the annual meeting and auction can be reserved by calling Mandan’s Seven Seas at 701-663-7401 or 1-800-597-7327. Special rates are available for Cowboy Hall of Fame members.
The Hall of Fame’s Center of Western Heritage and Cultures opened in Medora in 2005 and was named North Dakota’s 2007 Tourist Attraction of the Year. The facility is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. from May to October and by appointment during the winter months. Its galleries and exhibits detail the history of the Plains horse culture.
The facility is also used for meetings, reunions, weddings and other events. An attached patio provides room for more than 200 people for catered events. Catered food and beverage service is available, and reservations are now being taken for 2008 events in Medora.
A statewide fundraising campaign has been launched to pay off the Hall of Fame’s mortgage in 2008. Contributions for the project may be sent to the North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame, 1110 College Drive #216, Bismarck, ND 58501.
